Nyesom Wike, The former governor of Rivers State, stated on Wednesday that Siminalayi Fubara's impeachment would not be illegal.

 On Thursday, Rivers-based activist Jake Epelle stated that former governor Nyesom Wike and his supporters in the state House of Assembly will not be able to successfully impeach his successor, Siminalayi Fubara. Epelle stated that Wike cannot support impeachment of the current governor of the oil-rich state while simultaneously advocating for peace. “Let them go and try impeachment, they will not succeed,


Epelle said on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief show. Fubara will not be impeached. Because he hasn't done anything that could lead to his impeachment, I say that out loud on national television. He has the support of the people, so there will be no impeachment. “Will anything happen if he is impeached? No, contrary to what is depicted, the Rivers people are not troublesome, but we will support Fubara and democracy. It could happen to anyone else if we do not put an end to this chaos. It's time to put an end to the impeachment threat.

 The governor was denied access to the Assembly Quarters on Wednesday when he showed up to re-present the state budget for 2025, as required by the House following the verdict of the Supreme Court on February 28, 2025. As a result, the protracted dispute between the House of Assembly, which is supported by Wike, and Fubara appears to have no end in sight.
