Mrs. Chinyere Anaene, a 55-year-old school nurse and caregiver, and Nanenter Yese, a 14-month-old toddler, were killed at Clear Hope Foundation Academy in Dawaki, Abuja, according to a kidnapping suspect named David Moses.
Moses, a school security guard, claimed that Sunday Irimiya, an alleged accomplice who is still at large, pushed him to commit the crime.
He talked about how the two of them got Anaene and Yese out of the school by tricking them, and then they killed them after getting N3 million as a ransom.
On Friday, Moses confessed while responding to questions from reporters at the Federal Capital Territory Police Command. He claimed that he and Sunday had planned to kidnap the victims for ransom, initially asking for N250 million but eventually agreeing to pay N3 million.
"I killed a child with a nurse in Clear Hope School on July 23 and brought me here," I said. We both demanded N250 million as a ransom. We settled on N3m, which we collected later,” he stated. Moses claimed that Sunday stabbed him during a dispute, which later turned violent. When we divided the ransom, we ran into problems.
I was stabbed in the back by my friend, who then stole the money and fled. I went to someone's house and told them what was going on despite my struggles. But at the time, I was afraid that the community would kill me right away, so I didn't tell the whole story.
I insisted on seeing the police so I could tell them the whole story and they could take me to the hospital. I was taken to the hospital by the police when they arrived, and after I was treated, I told them the whole story.
Moses said that Sunday allegedly strangled the school nurse with a rope after luring her into a trap claiming she was checking something in the toilet. "I went to call her from her class," Moses said. I informed her that I wanted to demonstrate something to her near Sunday's hiding place in the front toilet.
Sunday came out from behind as we were moving and held the woman. He began to strangle her after wrapping a rope around her neck. She tried, but she eventually gave up.
He claimed that Sunday insisted on the kidnapping and murder of the child later. "He told me to run and bring the baby so we could also kill the baby," Moses said. I said no because the woman was sufficient on her own.
He insisted, asserting that the ransom we demanded would not be sufficient if the baby was not delivered. I therefore went and brought the child. He stated, when asked how many people he had previously killed or kidnapped, I have never done anything like that.
I had never been coerced into doing anything evil before. When asked more about his relationship with the woman and the baby, he said that the nurse gave him N300 the day she died to buy food. The woman showed me kindness.
In fact, she gave me N300 that day to purchase food. Before that, she had been providing me with money for food.
Zachariah Fiyinfoluwa, a representative of the security company that employed Moses, claimed that he was only informed of the nurse and child's disappearance after the school principal raised the alarm. No one I know called on Sunday.

David is the person we sent to the school, he said. However, Fiyinfoluwa admitted during questioning that the business did not properly document Moses' employment, including failing to keep his guarantor's information.
He stated, "I accept that it is our fault for us not to keep the record." Fiyinfoluwa acknowledged that supervisors were supposed to regularly visit deployment sites but did not confirm if such oversight occurred at Clear Hope School when further pressed on the company's responsibility, particularly for the safety of individuals within the premises.
In an interview with journalists, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, stated that the school reported the victims missing on July 23, 2025. He stated that the caregiver's phone was used to demand a ransom of N250 million the same day.
According to the CP, after an investigation, police arrested Moses, who later admitted to plotting the crime with his friend Sunday Irimiya, who is still at large.
He stated that the school principal, two additional security guards, and the Chief Security Officer of the private security company that sent Moses to the school had also been detained by the police.
