13 Dead, 26 Rescued In Niger Boat Accident — NSEMA

 


A boat accident in the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State resulted in the deaths of at least 13 passengers and the rescue of another 26. 

Remember that on Saturday, the ferry carrying 39 traders from the market back to Zumba village capsized near Guni town, as reported by GLOBALGIASTZNG. The accident was discovered to have been brought on by possible overloading and water turbulence. 

Advertisement Abdullahi Baba Arah, Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, disclosed that the victims have been buried while discussing the unfortunate incident on Sunday while addressing journalists. According to the organization, the boat had 39 passengers at the time of the incident, and 26 of them had to be rescued. 

According to Abdullai, "the boat was carrying 39 passengers when it capsized, and 26 of them were rescued." "Two children, eight women, and three men were among the 13 passengers who perished." In a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago also expressed his condolences to the residents of Shiroro local government regarding the incident. 


The boat accident was unfortunate, disappointing, and worrying, according to Governor Bago. "He expresses concern over the recurring capsizing of boats in the riverine communities of Niger State, despite the numerous efforts put in by relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies MDAs of both federal and state governments, including the N-HYPPADEC, to mitigate the negative trend," reads a portion of the statement. 

“He says while the government, through the relevant MDAs, is implementing the government’s policies on safe water transportation, farmer Governor Umaru Bago urges those in the riverine communities to endeavour to adhere to all the regulations for their safety. 

 "He specifically sympathizes with the families of the victims and prays that Allah will repose the souls of the deceased and grant quick recovery to those who have been injured," the statement reads.
