According to the official, "The formulation also includes the production of the Strategic Plan for 2027 to 2031 to replace the current Strategic Plan for 2022 to 2026, which will end in December of next year." “Preparing another crucial document that will serve as a bridge between 2026 and 2027, the general election year, which the current 2022- 2026 plan does not cover, is an important part of the current effort.
The EPP document for 2027 will be based on this particular document. “The 2022–2026 Strategic Plan placed a high priority on institutionalizing the commission's processes for carrying out its mandate, with a focus on building capacity, encouraging professionalism, fostering synergy among departments, and enhancing effective mobilization .The EPP is a comprehensive document that focuses solely on a general election and uses resources, among other things, over a four-year cycle.
According to the findings, the EPP was initially developed for the general election in 2015. Since then, EPPs were produced for subsequent 2019 and 2023 general elections.
In response to the difficulties encountered during the general election in 2023, INEC is improving its procedures to guarantee smoother polling in subsequent elections. While managing a voter base of 93,469,008 registered voters across 176,846 polling units during the 2023 general election, the commission reportedly encountered a few technical and logistical obstacles. Over 1.5 million people, including poll workers, supervisors, and security guards, were sent to the election along with 182,491 vehicles to make it easier to vote in Nigeria's many different terrains.
Reports indicated that despite the extensive preparations, one of the significant issues during the 2023 election was the difficulty in uploading
presidential election results to the INEC Result Viewing portal.
While uploads for the elections to the National Assembly were successfully managed by the system, technical issues caused delays in the presidential election results. The root cause of the issue was traced to a configuration problem that prevented the system from properly mapping the presidential results, which are countrywide, as opposed to state-specific elections.
The first presidential election result sheet was successfully uploaded later that evening on election day after the commission addressed the issue with software updates.
