The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrival of operatives from the Special Enforcement Team of the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit, deployed to enforce the nationwide withdrawal of police personnel from VIP escort and guard duties.
The development was announced in a statement released on Monday by the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, who noted that the deployment marks a major step in the ongoing police reform agenda initiated by the Inspector-General of Police.
According to Orutugu, the arrival of the Special Enforcement Team signifies the commitment of the IGP to ensuring that the directive on VIP escort withdrawal is fully implemented across all states, including Anambra. He said the move would enhance professionalism and discipline within the force and allow for optimal allocation of police manpower.
“The Anambra State Police Command today, December 8, 2025, formally received operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit deployed to the state to ensure full implementation of the IGP’s directive on the withdrawal of police personnel from VIP escort and guard duties,” the statement read.

The Commissioner emphasized that the withdrawal of officers from VIP duties is aimed at strengthening public policing and improving the force’s response capacity. He stated that the release of additional personnel into frontline duties would significantly boost security operations across the state.
“We reaffirm our commitment to supporting the IGP’s reform initiatives targeted at enhancing professionalism, discipline, and optimal deployment of police manpower nationwide,” Orutugu said.
He added that the Command has assured the monitoring team of its full cooperation throughout the enforcement process. Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Heads of Tactical Units have been directed to provide every necessary support to ensure a transparent and seamless implementation of the directive.
The Command also appealed to individuals, organizations, and VIPs affected by the nationwide directive to comply fully, stressing that the enforcement is part of broader efforts to reform the Nigeria Police Force and improve national security.
GLOBALGISTZNG had earlier reported that the Nigeria Police Force deployed a Special Enforcement Team to ensure full compliance with President Bola Tinubu’s directive prohibiting the use of police personnel for VIP escort and guard services.
According to a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the monitoring exercise commenced in Lagos on December 6, 2025, at about 10:00 a.m. Hundeyin disclosed that the enforcement covered major locations such as the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, and several other strategic locations.
He noted that the team recorded “satisfactory and commendable” compliance with the presidential directive, adding that no cases of unauthorized police escorts were observed during the Lagos operation.
The enforcement team is expected to extend similar operations across other states as part of the ongoing nationwide effort to reposition the police force and ensure adequate manpower for core policing duties.
