Your bid for a second term will be affected if you succeed Shettima as vice president - Buhari’s minister, Shittu warns Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu

Adebayo Shittu, former Minister of Communications, has urged President Bola Tinubu not to succeed Vice President Kashim Shettima in 2027.

Tinubu's bid for a second term would be put in jeopardy if Shettima were to be replaced, according to Shittu, who served as Minister during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. He disclosed this during an interview on AIT Focus Nigeria.

Before the 2027 election, there has been speculation that Tinubu might select a different vice-presidential running mate. However, such assertions had been refuted by the presidency, which emphasized that the president would make his decision public when the official election campaigns began.

Shittu, on the other hand, stated that "Shettima was not nominated as vice president because of whatever cleavage he had with ANPP; on his own merit, he got it." Because Shettima merits it as a person, starting with history is not part of it.

“I would vote for Shettima any day because he merits it, he is a very intelligent vice president. I don’t know what he has done for people to think that he would act differently. I don’t think Shettima deserves any prevarication on his continuity in Tinubu’s team.

"If such suggestions come from any quarters, I believe we must exercise extreme caution," On replacing Shettima, he said: “It would bring a lot of disruptions if that move is made and it could endanger the possibility of Tinubu’s second presidency.

They must continue, you don’t punish anybody for doing anything wrong.”
