Two firefighters killed in ambush while responding to wildfire

According to the local sheriff, in an ongoing standoff in the northwestern US state of Idaho on Sunday, firefighters responding to a fire were ambushed by an unknown number of gunmen, resulting in the deaths of at least two individuals.

Sheriff Robert Norris told reporters that the fire was still raging on the mountainside in Kootenai County as law enforcement exchanged fire with the shooter or shooters. "There have been two deaths now.

We have an unknown amount of casualties. He stated, "We are actively taking sniper fire as we speak," during a press conference. We still have civilians coming off of that mountain." He went on to say, "I encourage them to take that shot to neutralize the threat as soon as somebody has a clear shot.

No evidence of wanting to surrender," the shooter stated. He stated that the authorities thought the two people killed were firefighters. Local fire chief Pat Riley had earlier said that the attack had broken his heart.

Despite the fact that the fire was still burning, he stated to the KHQ television station that no evacuations had been ordered. Residents were instructed by Norris and other officials to seek shelter in place until the standoff was resolved.

In spite of the fact that there are few restrictions on gun purchases in many states, serious gun violence is prevalent throughout the United States. This year, there have been 189 mass shootings in the United States, according to the Gun Violence Archive. A mass shooting is one in which at least four people, other than the shooter, are killed or injured.
