In an effort to end the state's ongoing crisis, President Bola Tinubu met with key political figures from Rivers State on Thursday behind closed doors.

The suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, and other members of the state legislature were present at the meeting, which was held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Recall that on March 18, 2025, Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers. During that declaration, Tinubu suspended Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the entire state House of Assembly, citing escalating insecurity and their inability to cooperate effectively.

On the other hand, the meeting on Thursday was said to be part of the reconciliation efforts. Photographs from the Villa showed Tinubu, Fubara, Wike and the state lawmakers who attended the meeting. Multiple sources said the session ended on a friendly note, with Fubara and Amaewhule seen holding hands and sharing laughter.
