Metal Poisoning: Sokoto Cautions Against Using Native Doctors.

The use of harmful traditional methods to treat cases of metal poisoning has alarmed the government of Sokoto State

Dr. Abubakar Wurno, the Commissioner for Health, condemned the practice of making incisions in patients' stomachs as a form of treatment and demanded that it be stopped right away. Dr. Wurno emphasized the importance of seeking medical attention at hospitals rather than using risky traditional methods when he spoke at the presentation of government-supplied medications for treating metal poisoning at General Hospital, Tureta.

The practice of cutting into the stomachs of patients who have been poisoned by metals must stop immediately. The commissioner stated, "Instead, those showing symptoms should be rushed to hospitals for proper medical care.

The people were reassured by Wurno, who was represented by Dr. Bello Attahiru, the Executive Director of the State Hospital Services Management Board, that the government would provide the essential medications to all general hospitals that dealt with cases of metal poisoning. Receiving the medical supplies, the Chairman of Tureta Local Government Council, Alhaji Aliyu Tureta, expressed gratitude, noting that the provision of the drugs was timely.

He promised the government that the local government would make sure the medicines were used as intended.
