Yesterday was our 10th wedding anniversary. Yesterday, we also officially moved into our new home. 10 years ago when we got married, I didn't have a house. I had to move in to squat with my wife in the apartment she rented close to campus.
It wasn't comfortable.
It was hard decision to make but I had no choice at the time.
3 months later, we moved out from there and the first apartment we got was a single room self contain.
We didn't even have the money to pay.
We had to sell a deep freezer my wife's dad bought for her to be able to pay the rent.
From that single room, I moved to Lagos in search of greener pastures and left my wife back home in Benue state.
After spending one full year in Lagos, nothing came out.
In 2017, my sister dragged me from Lagos to this town 😂
I came into this town shattered and battered.
But by the grace of God, I was able to get a job as an events manager in one of the biggest events centers in Abuja.
One month after I got the job, my wife moved over.
I was working as a manager but my salary was nothing to write home about.
Things got so bad that at a point, feeding and paying my daughter's school fees then was a challenge.
On the 29th of January, 2019, I got laid off.
I didn't panic though because I was already fed up with the job and I wanted to leave.
However, life took another turn.
The struggle continued and things kept going from bad to worse.
It got to a point that I couldn't even afford to pay my rent of N50K.
But just like the scripture says in Psalm 126:1- 2 "When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, We were like them that dream. Then was our mouth filled with laughter, And our tongue with singing: Then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them".
That small boy who could not afford to pay rent of N50K for a single room self contain moved in to a one bedroom flat.
2 years later we moved into a 2 bedroom flat.
And 18 months later, we've now moved into our own fully built 4 bedroom flat.
It took us only 15 months to build this house to our taste.
I intentionally decided to dedicate the house to God yesterday as a way to make my wife, Janet John happy.
This woman has sacrificed a lot for me that if I begin to recount her sacrifices, time would never be enough.
Who could have believed that that small boy who didn't have a house of his own 10 years ago can afford to splash 9-figures on a building today.
Truly, a lot can happen in 10 years.
