Gwamnishu mentioned that on March 23, the kidnappers had taken two people hostage and forced them into the bush while demanding a ransom. He mentioned that Anuka was working on their farm with his wife and two minor children while the kidnappers were hiding in the bush with the two abducted victims. The kidnappers continued to kidnap Anuka and his family and began demanding ransom, according to the SSA.
Gwamnishu stated, "On March 29, 2025, at their farm in Ubulu-Uku, Delta State, Mr. Godwin Anuka, his wife, and two underage children were kidnapped." These heinous crimes were committed by the same five sets of armed Fulani kidnappers. “From Ogwashi-Uku, they took Chibueze, trekked to Ubulu-Uku, and then took Mr. Afam. They trekked to Power Line, crossed the Isah Ogwashi/Ubulu-Uku road, and camped for days on a farm road in the direction of Ani-Uje Ubulu-Uku before calling for ransom.
They saw Mr. Godwin and his family at their camp, where they kidnapped them all. He revealed that the chairman of the local government recruited military personnel to carry out a rescue operation. However, he also revealed that Anuka was shot to death in front of his wife and children while the kidnappers released some of the abducted individuals after paying a ransom. He wrote, "The Aniocha South LGA Chairman, mobilized the Nigerian Army and the Ubulu-Uku Central Vigilante team." The Ubulu-Uku Palace and Hon Pastor Jude Chukwunwike attempted to rescue them.
“The kidnappers released Chibueze, Mr. Afam, the late Godwin’s wife, and two children yesterday, after a hefty ransom was paid. We were told that Mr. Godwin was shot and killed right inside the farm in the presence of his wife and children.” At the time this report was written, attempts to get in touch with Bright Edafe, the public relations officer for the Delta State Police, were fruitless because he had yet to return calls or messages.
On March 28, Globalgistzng reported that Gwamnishu criticized the rise in kidnappings in some parts of the state that are allegedly the work of Fulani herders. This was made public by Gwamnishu in reference to Esther Osaze's death, a female land agent whose body was discovered a few days after she was kidnapped.
While mourning Esther's passing, the SSA mentioned that some of the victims were still in the kidnappers' den because their families were unable to pay the ransom that was requested.
